FELLOWS ONLY: Pain - Understanding and Advocating - A Veterinary Technician/Nurse's Perspective (Virtual)

Join Donna Sisak, CVT, LVT, VTS (Anesthesia/Analgesia) to discuss the importance of an integrative team approach in pain management for the patient in the post-op period. This program will remind you that as a veterinary technician/nurse, you are a TRUE patient advocate – medical, physical and emotional support - for the welfare of each patient. We will discuss the importance of understanding “the basics” of the physiology of pain, pain terminology and different types of pain with a conception that recognition and treatment of pain is a complex task and how the multimodal approach – is advised in achieving a safe, comfortable recovery. We will address that effective analgesia begins with a calm/less anxious patient and pre-emptive analgesia, and offer recommendations for improving pain management - staying abreast and informed of new analgesic modalities- and overcoming obstacles interfering with the patient’s well-being encouraging a comfortable, safe recovery.
