Preparing for the Credentialing Exam

The application is due on May 1, roughly 90 days prior to the AVTE Annual Conference. Once your application has been approved, you will have between July 15 and August 15 to take the exam. The exam will be administered at the AVTE Annual Conference, traditionally held the first week in August. The governing committee is willing to consider an approved testing center that is not affiliated with the individual taking the exam nor the AVTSE or the AVTE. 

Given its specialized content, preparing for the Veterinary Technician Education Specialist (VTES) exam requires a structured approach. Here’s a step-by-step guide we recommend to help you prepare effectively:

    • Exam Outline: Review the exam blueprint to understand the topics covered. The VTES exam typically includes education theory, curriculum development, teaching strategies, and assessment methods.

    • Study Guides: The Academy does not currently have a study guide for the exam; we hope to offer this (study guide, practice questions) in the coming months.

    • Goals: Set clear, achievable goals for each study session. This will help you stay focused and track your progress.
  4. Review Core Concepts

      AVTE hopes to facilitate a study group for each upcoming test once the initial registration period has concluded.

    • Health: During preparation, ensure you get adequate rest, nutrition, and exercise. Mental and physical well-being are crucial for effective studying and exam performance.
    • Stress Management: Practice stress-relief techniques such as mindfulness or relaxation exercises to maintain focus and manage anxiety.
